Niels Steensen and Jorgen Varming founded Steensen Varming in Copenhagen in 1933 on the philosophy that a proactive and integrated association with Clients, Architects, Project Managers and other members of the design team and construction industry will achieve the best possible outcome for each project. Steensen and Varming were pioneers in the Building Services Industry and instigated our company ethos of integration, hard work and enjoyment.
More recently, and as an extension of Steensen and Varming's original philosophies, Steensen Varming have adopted and continue to purport the values of building services and building performance/technology as part of 'Total Architecture', driving the wider design team to understand and embrace this philosophy for the benefit of the project and the built environment as a whole.
In short form, 'Total Architecture' can be defined by considering a building is a machine, a body, a system - the team must understand and embrace the whole - closer collaboration and interaction are the real drivers towards value and sustainability, enhanced by a pursuit of excellence, integrity, responsibility and making the process enjoyable. Building Services Engineering needs to be integrated, not only between the disciplines of mechanical and electrical engineering, but also within the building as a whole.
